Pelican Point Power Station
| GDF SUEZ Australian Energy began operations in South Australia in 1999 when it developed and constructed the State’s first major private sector power station at Pelican Point, on the Port River, 20 kilometres north-west of the Adelaide central business district.Pelican Point is one of Australia’s most advanced, efficient and environmentally friendly power stations.
The power station uses a combined-cycle gas turbine operation to produce 487 MW of electricity- 25 per cent of South Australia’s needs. Pelican Point has an energy efficiency of more than 50 per cent, compared with older power stations which are at less than 35 per cent. The combined-cycle system also greatly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Other environmental features of the power station include:
Pelican Point has been delivering electricity continuously since November 2000. |
