11/05/07 – ONE MILLION GAS CUSTOMERS MAKE A CHOICE

Energy retailer EnergyAustralia today awarded a year’s supply of green energy to customer, Valda Beer for becoming the one millionth customer to sign up under the deregulated gas market.

Since 2002 one million customers have exercised their right to choose their gas retailer. Approximately 35,000 customers are processed each month as they enter the market for the first time or change gas retailers.

The Minister for Energy and Resources, Mr Peter Batchelor was in Bendigo to congratulate Ms Beer and to celebrate the milestone, together with EnergyAustralia CEO (Victoria and South Australia), Mr Domenic Capomolla.

Mr Batchelor said this was a clear demonstration that competition in the gas sector is delivering real benefits to consumers with better deals and greater choice for Victorian customers.

Mr Capomolla said his company was delighted that Victoria’s millionth customer, Valda Beer, had chosen EnergyAustralia for gas and electricity.

“Competition in the Victorian retail energy sector is delivering better outcomes for consumers through simpler, innovative products and better energy pricing,” Mr Capomolla said.

“EnergyAustralia congratulates Valda Beer on being the millionth customer and we look forward to continuing to offer Victorian energy users a competitive choice for their energy supply.”
