12/01/09 – Low levels of Blue Green Algae detected at Hazelwood
International Power Hazelwood (IPRH) is reporting that its routine monitoring program for Blue Green Algae (BGA) has detected low levels of BGA in the Hazelwood pondage.
This has prompted IPRH to issue a preliminary public alert for the pondage.
Some green water discoloration or slight odours may be noticed, however BGA levels are not at a level which might pose a risk to recreational pondage users.
IPRH will continue its periodic water-sampling program to monitor any changes in the BGA situation. Meanwhile the general public is asked to exercise caution and report any sightings of BGA.
Further inquiries can be directed to IPRH’s Public Affairs Manager on 5135 5093 or via email to: commrelations@hazelwoodpower.com.au
