Buronga Peaking Plant Proposal
| Introduction
In November 2006 IPR – GDF SUEZ Australia publicly announced and lodged a proposal with the New South Wales Department of Planning to construct a small peaking power plant 10km north east of Buronga, near Mildura. Since then the company has consulted with State and Local Government stakeholders to prepare an Environmental Assessment Report in accordance with Part 3A of the NSW Planning Process. On 11 August 2008 the Department of Planning initiated the community consultation phase by placing the Environmental Assessment Report on public exhibition until 12 September 2008 In conjunction with the public exhibition phase IPRA held public information sessions at the Wentworth Town Hall and the Midway Community Centre on August 13 and 14 2008. Submissions made during the public exhibition period were provided to IPR – GDF SUEZ which then prepared responses for the NSW Department of Planning. The Department of Planning in June 2009 prepared a Recommendation Report for the Minister of Planning to make a determination on the project. On 6 September 2009 the Minister of Planning provided project approval for the Buronga Peaking Power Plant. Interested parties can view the Minister’s determination at the Department of Planning website.
