International Power Flagship Project
|
The International Power Flagship Project has been running since 2001. Administered by International Power plc in London, the Flagship Project is an annual grant (or grants) awarded to community projects as nominated by International Power employees. The projects can range in size and scope, but they all have the same aim: improving quality of life in different corners of the world. In 2006 and 2007 two projects to receive funding were local community projects located in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. 2007- The Grace Berglund Centre, Warragul (Victoria) $200,000 was awarded to the Grace Berglund Centre in Warragul through a nomination made by an employee of Hazelwood Power Station. The centre is a Gippsland-based service specialising in providing services for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. The Flagship funding will help to create a new “child friendly” reception waiting area, landscaping improvements incorporating a child-friendly playground and the purchase of specialised transport in the form of a 12-seater bus. The main 2006 Flagship funding was awarded to a project nominated by Loy Yang B Power Station. The Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve (TRRCR) is a project located on the outskirts of Traralgon (Victoria). The funding was awarded to the project to finance the final stage of work on the TRRCR. The final stage will see the development of an interpretive information shelter, information signage and panels illustrating the native fauna, flora and history of the reserve. This project will be supplemented by updates to the TRRCR education pack and the development of a pack for secondary level students.
